Urulu - Tell Me [download]

I’ve been following Los Angeles based DJ Urulu for some time since I saw him spin at my local spot, Central in Santa Monica many months ago. Tell Me/No More EP is available as a free download from the artist. Some really chill deep house for those late nights. Vibing.

The New Division - Shallow Play

A really awesome track by local LA band The New Division. I saw these guys back in September and they are quite awesome to say the least. Nu-disco, indie electronic type stuff, I can’t wait to catch them again (although I missed them at Central last week!)

Farewell for now, Los Angeles. I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge and life experiences over the past five years that I could have never imagined. I never really truly understood LA until I graduated college and moved out of Westwood and into Santa Monica in January of this year. I cannot wait to return to this beautiful city, hopefully sooner than later!
For now though…I will miss my friends, my incredible job, the unbeatable weather, the traffic (sike)!… and the life and energy of the diverse music scene down here. I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to work for a young startup company where the employees are more than just coworkers; they are my friends who genuinely care for me and my well being. It is also quite amazing to be able to hit the kitchen for my breakfast routine of eggs (or egg burritos), ramen (college style), and the ever-so-elusive English muffins while catching up with coworkers at the ‘water cooler.’
Friends, I am headed back up to the SF Bay Area I will be returning to LA when I’m ready. Feel free to shoot me an email, call me, or text me to chat anytime.
When the time is right, I will be back to the City of Angels in a jif and head back to my dream job where I will bring back my 110% effort to my my talented and wonderful team. Thanks for all my friends* down here who make my life so special.
*To my hidden angels - you know who you are. I cannot thank you enough for your guidance and care
Maya Jane Coles - RA #241 - 10 January 2011 [download]

This Resident Advisor podcast by the up and coming wonder Maya Jane Coles is quite possibly my favorite deep house set I have ever heard. Ever. Today I learned that Maya also operates under a different name, Nocturnal Sunshine as her side, dubstep project. I’m going to have to look into it and report back to you guys, because everything I have heard from her is straight FIRE. This RA podcast is great for the late night party… I can just feel myself grooving to these deep tracks from the wee hours of 3am until sunrise. Throw on your headphones or turn up your speakers and get down to this goodness.
On a separate note - Maya Jane Coles is playing on the West Coast for the first time in a while! In San Francisco she is playing a sold-out Sunset Cruise, on the Sunday of Halloween (10/30)… I’m going to be catching her here in Los Angeles at some underground warehouse type venue (10/29). Depending on how awesome it is, I might just fly/drive up to catch the sunset cruise with Maya, because she is my FAV!
10/5 Show Review - The New Division at Central, Santa Monica
The New Division - Starfield [download]
My buddy Alan and I decided on a whim on Wednesday to go to The Central S.A.P.C., which is by far my favorite local venue in Santa Monica. We wanted to check out these up and coming, indie/new wave rockers The New Division, who are made up of four very talented dudes from Riverside. They kind of remind me of Cut Copy or even Two Door Cinema Club, with more new-wavy reverberating vocals. It was one of the BEST spontaneous decisions I have made in a while.
Boy was I blown away by their set. Their harmony, the reverberating vocals along with the rocking guitar and poppy synth made for an absolutely fantastic show! I know that The New Division is going to go far. Wednesday was the first time I had ever heard of the band (as I repeatedly [intoxicated] told one of the band members), and I regard them very highly now. I plan on seeing them whenever they are playing locally in Los Angeles as I was pretty blown away by their energy. The vibes were good, the crowd was super fun and really into it as well, and everybody was dancing to their electronic-indie jams. Check out their latest album, Shadows, which they were giving away for free at the show! I ended up giving $20 to the little donation bin because I was so thrilled by their performance. Stay tuned…more of The New Division to come!
