Maya Jane Coles - Essential Mix (2013-05-04)

MAYA JANE COLES: Essential Mix Two Timer In Under Two Years
It is a great honor for a DJ to be invited to play a set for BBC’s world-renowned Essential Mix, and many great electronic music acts go through their entire careers without ever playing even a single one. Although some older and more experienced DJs have appeared on the program multiple times particularly in the late 90s/early 00s (read: Sasha appearing 28 times or Oakenfold appearing on 36 mixes), to take control of the Essential Mix decks on multiple occasions a DJ needs to be the crème de la crème, especiallyin this day and age of electronic music.
Maya Jane Coles has been producing music since 2008 and played her first Essential Mix at the age of 23 on July 9, 2011. After achieving critical acclaim with her infectious 2010 hit, “What They Say”, she gained international attention and quickly flew to the top ranks of world-class electronic music producers.
She is a highly talented individual with a hyperfocus on the deep and tech house scene and her second Essential Mix less than two years after her debut is undeniable proof that she is here to stay. The mix kicks off on a slower note but by the hour mark you’ll probably be jumping out of your chair if you’re like me. After another full hour of refined deep and dark house tunes, by the end of the mix you’ll be praying for her to play on. More MJC here.

Here’s a nice, mellow and soulful remix of Lianne La Havas by the lovely Maya Jane Coles. Seems like a great track to play during the evening to cap off a long day. Props to XLR8R for always hooking up the freshest beats.
Alpines - Cocoon (Nocturnal Sunshine Remix) [download]

Miss Maya Jane Coles, under her dubstep alias Nocturnal Sunshine drops some dark, deep, smooth and sexy sounding beats with this Alpines remix. This song has a very underground, industrial vibe to it, and I love the direction that she is taking with these futuristic sounding beats. It is no surprise that she is making such gigantic waves in the industry with her infectious house music and dark yet thoughtful tracks under her dubstep moniker, Nocturnal Sunshine, and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with for 2012.
Eats Everything - Entrance Song [download]

This song is the definition of good deep house music. I just can’t get enough of this track after hearing it on Maya Jane Coles’ Essential Mix. These are the sorts of drops that make people lose it on the dancefloor. I will look into this humorous Eats Everything character and hopefully report back with some quality tunes!
Maya Jane Coles you never fail to impress. Love this Essential Mix from last year. From tech house to deep house, Maya takes us on a wonderful journey. Get into it.

Nocturnal Sunshine - Broke [download]

Future Bass Thursdays [pt.2] Here is a fresh, futuristic sounding track by Nocturnal Sunshine, Maya Jane Coles’ dubstep alias. Maya takes dubstep in a completely new direction with this incredibly deep, bassy track. This single, with “Can’t Hide The Way I Feel” on the A-Side and “Broke” on the B-side was just re-released on vinyl because of its popularity. I’m going to need to pick this one up if I can manage to get it without ordering it from the UK! I can’t believe that MJC was dropping stuff this back in 2010 (December, to be exact.) It is still completely fresh in 2012, this just goes to show you how forward thinking and progressive her sounds are.
Maya Jane Coles - RA #241 - 10 January 2011 [download]

This Resident Advisor podcast by the up and coming wonder Maya Jane Coles is quite possibly my favorite deep house set I have ever heard. Ever. Today I learned that Maya also operates under a different name, Nocturnal Sunshine as her side, dubstep project. I’m going to have to look into it and report back to you guys, because everything I have heard from her is straight FIRE. This RA podcast is great for the late night party… I can just feel myself grooving to these deep tracks from the wee hours of 3am until sunrise. Throw on your headphones or turn up your speakers and get down to this goodness.
On a separate note - Maya Jane Coles is playing on the West Coast for the first time in a while! In San Francisco she is playing a sold-out Sunset Cruise, on the Sunday of Halloween (10/30)… I’m going to be catching her here in Los Angeles at some underground warehouse type venue (10/29). Depending on how awesome it is, I might just fly/drive up to catch the sunset cruise with Maya, because she is my FAV!
Maya Jane Coles - What They Say [download]

Maya Jane Coles is a deep house goddess who hails from the UK (God, why am I not living and breathing UK’s amazing music and scene right now…) like many of the great electronic artists today. 24 year old Maya Jane Coles was just named “Best Newcomer” at the Ibiza DJ Awards, and she already has caught the attention and commanded respect from the biggest names in the electronic music community. Her style is very unique; her beats are a blend of tech-house and deep house, and you can hear the influence of her Japanese and British upbringing in her sounds. She is quite possibly my favorite artist of the moment; in 2010 she won the award for being the Best Breakthrough Producer in DJ Mag, and she has been producing hits consistently since.
This song, “What They Say” hit #1 on Beatport’s Deep House charts, and it has been at the top of the charts at respected music authority Resident Advisor. The first time I heard this song, I was in awe and immediately scoured the internet in hopes of finding the song. I highly suggest you download this gem. More Maya Jane Coles to come… I will keep you posted with the freshest tracks from the beautiful M.J. Coles :)
