Via NPR:
“Starting May 28, a four-decades-old ban on the import of many Italian salumi will be lifted.
Every Italian region and province, and even many towns have their own distinctive salumi, many of them celebrated in weeklong folk festivals. There are fans of Coppa Piacentina or those who swear by Coppa di Parma; there’s an infinite variety of salamis — from Brianza, Vicenza, Cremona and many more, spiced with garlic, juniper and myrtle berries, fennel and red wine…”
As a foodie/lover of all charcuterie / salumi, I cannot wait to try some (all) of the newly allowed Italian cured meats. May 28, a day for cured-meat enthusiasts to rejoice!
The Beatles - Come Together (Take 1)

Take 1 of “Come Together” off The Beatles Anthology, Volume 3. Much more raw and unpolished than the version that made Abbey Road, featuring claps and even a bit of laughing later on the track.
“If you wish to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
- African Proverb

Tame Impala - Feels Like We Only Go Backwards (Log Cabin Session)
Nice little stripped down version of “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards.” Probably my favorite jam off last year’s Lonerism.
James Blake - Take a Fall For Me (feat. RZA)

This is the third track off James Blake’s latest album, Overgrown. I’ll do an album review later. “Take a Fall For Me” is melancholic and moody, and Blake’s high pitched manipulated vocals with RZA’s lyricism are beautifully mixed with hypnotic piano tones and deep bass lines. I haven’t given the entire album a thorough listen yet, but I’ve had this track on repeat about three times now and am definitely impressed so far.
DJ Snake - Together [free download in 320!]

I never thought I’d be listening to hardstyle in a non-ironic fashion in 2013, until I heard this mind blowing jam “Together” that my good friend Noel shared with me today. “Together” pays homage to the good ol’ days of that uplifting, “we-are-pirates” sort of rising synth combined with that sharp kick drum, resulting in a whole bunch of people from the Netherlands and Melbourne battling it out on the floor to see who has the superior shuffle.
According to his Soundcloud, DJ Snake is “Born & Raised in Motherfuckin’ Paris,” and I absolutely love that he reps his Parisian roots hard. This track is absolutely flooring to me. Hardstyle meets trap in a manner that is très fantastique. I have to admit, trap generally does not scratch the right itch for me, but this track is absolutely on point for everything that I do enjoy about the genre.
The first drop is masterful, with the requisite repeating “bounce” vocal / lasers and a bassline that would light up any dancefloor. The song once again tilts its head in the direction of that classic hardstyle sound and build, but the second drop is pretty unexpected and absolutely godly. The heady arabian sounding bass along with the repeated “work” vocal is guaranteed to get people slithering.
The best part? He’s giving the track away for free via his Soundcloud in 320kbps quality. Class act. Throw this track on repeat, because if you’re like me you were probably wishing that “Together” had another few minutes on it. Werk.
Azari & III - Hungry for the Power (Jamie Jones Ridge Street Remix)

Woke up this morning remembering the Hot Creations showcase in Barcelona last year with Jamie Jones and Richy Ahmed. I clearly remember going absolutely bonkers when Jamie Jones dropped this track, taking this original tune on a walk on the darker and deeper side of the spectrum. Not a new tune or anything but definitely on my list of favorites. Stay deep.
Avatism - A Farewell Portrait

Peep this minimal-leaning deep house by Italian DJ Avatism. I found this tune on one of Das Kraftfuttermischwerk’s podcasts… If you haven’t ever checked them out, they have something for every style and flavor of electronic.
Mount Kimbie - Made to Stray [download free next 7 days]

‘Shadows turn to grey
A slave today
He cowered beyond reckless tracks of impulse
Made to stray around rough coasts
When grace is close to home’
First track released off the new Mount Kimbie album Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, whichdrops May 27th on Warp Records. So excited for the sophomore album by my favorite experimental beat artisans, Dom and Kai. Can’t wait to see what they have done since the heady, blissful, and ethereal Crooks and Lovers.
Miguel Campbell - Not That Kind of Girl

Jamming to deep house is a surefire way to get your morning started on a groovin’ note. Those familiar with The Magician’s mixtapes, specifically #26 will instantly recognize this massive tune by another Hot Creations star Miguel Campbell. After sampling “How to Dress Well,” The Magician launches into this heavenly disco track, which features Beck Lott’s smooth vocals along with a steady, stomping beat. It blows my mind that this release was a B-Side, which just goes to show you the prowess of the deep house vanguard of Hot Creations. Get your morning started right, and start stomping!
Todd Terje - Inspector Norse

Norwegian producer Todd Terje delivers some delectable, space-age disco goodness with “Inspector Norse.” I heard jam dropped by Christian Martin at the first Dirtybird party of the year this past weekend, and I was so stoked when this song started playing! Everybody started grooving to the fun and funky beats immediately, and my happiness level went through the roof as the entire room got down to this massive party track. I hope to hear this spun on a dancefloor in space one day. This one’s for you, min Norwegian, Siv Rakel! :)
Lou Van - Save My Soul Now [download]

Some awesome deep house from Danish producer Lou Van. Lucky for us, he’s giving away this track for free via his Facebook page, so I have linked you to the direct download, gratis, above! I enjoy his use of the soulful vocal, and I absolutely love the section around [2:45]… it has me hooked for sure. Give it a spin.
MaG - Freedom [download]

Normally I don’t post too much hip-hop, but this caught my eye this morning as I was browsing through new music. RCRD LBL sent me an email of a free album download by this new rapper MaG, and in their words… “Ambitious, declarative and sprawling, MaG smashes through the rap wall and announces his presence as a refreshing new voice in New York hip-hop with the release of his new LP freedom.” He has a good rhythm, and his lyrics flow smoothly with a clean beat.
Four Tet - 0181 (album) [download]

Kieran Hebdan, better known as Four Tet just released a free album today, “0181” that is a mix of trippy, dreamy, and jazzy electronic beats. This album was compiled in 2012 but includes sounds created between 1997-2001. The jazzy little bit at [19:30] is currently tickling my eardrums, and reminds me a lot of Bonobo’s Black Sands. Enjoy!
Julio Bashmore - Husk

Massive deep house tune that Julio Bashmore closed his set (encore!) with in San Francisco last weekend. People all hopped up on stage and got down hard to “Husk.” Thanks a ton to Jeremy for the track ID. Close your eyes. Let the music take you away. And STOMP!
Zero 7 - Ghost Symbol (Julio Bashmore Remix)

This is a nice remix of Zero 7’s track, “Ghost Symbol” by Bristollian beats genius Julio Bashmore, shared to me by my good friend Jess :). I was lucky to see Julio Bashmore this weekend in SF at this super sweet venue/arts space in the Mission, Inner Mission SF. It was hands down one of the best shows I’ve seen all year, without a doubt. Still looking for the track that he closed the night with… until then, stay tuned.
