Four Tet - Parallel Jalebi
I first got into Four Tet's unique sound from his 2010 album, There Is Love In You, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Getting real fired up to catch him for my first time in March in SF at the Mezzanine. “Parallel Jalebi” has been popping up on a bunch of podcasts I’ve been listening to, most recently on DJ Koze's XLR8R mix, and I felt compelled to share.
Gangways - Out Here
Some deep, clean, underwater beats straight out of East London. Just you wait for the [1.55] mark.
Bondax - All Inside (free download from XLR8R)
some beautiful ´´post-everything¨ via XLR8R:
"All Inside" is an icy, introspective production lead by chords that move in and out of earshot at a pace not far from taking a relaxed breath. The 17-and-18-year-old Lancaster-based pair proceed to build a pristine post-everything beat that is marked by tuned percussion, side-chained whirls, and thick, gooey chords. The crowning feature is a beautifully chopped-and-rearranged R&B vocal that sounds like it could have stemmed from some forgotten neo-soul record, or perhaps even further back into the days of early rhythm and blues.
When a fire starts to burn, right? And it starts to spread.
She gonna bring that attitude home.
Flume - Left Alone (feat. Chet Faker)
"Left Alone" is probably one of my favorite tracks off Flume’s eponymous LP from 2012. On repeat.
Stan Getz, Antônio Carlos Jobim, João & Astrud Gilberto - Corcovado (Tokimonsta Remix)
Been jammin’ so hard on Verve Remixed: The First Ladies since it was released a little over a week ago. Besides the masterful remix of Ella Fitzgerald’s “Blue Skies” by the one and only Maya Jane Coles (which itself is reason enough to buy the whole album…), Tokimonsta’s take on ”Corcovado” is a must have for some late-evening summer grooving. More to come from this stellar album soon.
XXYYXX - About You
Heard this track for the first time last night at Prajna Yoga’s Two Year Anniversary Party. This woman Tiana was doing some serious L.E.D. hooping to this track and had the whole place mesmerized! Enjoy the warm, ambient synths with some bass later in the song. Reminds me a lot of Koreless's grooves.
DJ Snake - Bird Machine
As promised before, one more banger by DJ Snake. This trap-tastic jam is sure to get any hip-hop fan fiending for that bass to drop with the catchy bird whistle. Bump this one loud.
Mount Kimbie - Made to Stray [download free next 7 days]
'Shadows turn to grey
A slave today
He cowered beyond reckless tracks of impulse
Made to stray around rough coasts
When grace is close to home’
First track released off the new Mount Kimbie album Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, whichdrops May 27th on Warp Records. So excited for the sophomore album by my favorite experimental beat artisans, Dom and Kai. Can’t wait to see what they have done since the heady, blissful, and ethereal Crooks and Lovers.
Todd Terje - Inspector Norse
Norwegian producer Todd Terje delivers some delectable, space-age disco goodness with “Inspector Norse.” I heard jam dropped by Christian Martin at the first Dirtybird party of the year this past weekend, and I was so stoked when this song started playing! Everybody started grooving to the fun and funky beats immediately, and my happiness level went through the roof as the entire room got down to this massive party track. I hope to hear this spun on a dancefloor in space one day. This one’s for you, min Norwegian, Siv Rakel! :)
Four Tet - 0181 (album) [download]
Kieran Hebdan, better known as Four Tet just released a free album today, “0181” that is a mix of trippy, dreamy, and jazzy electronic beats. This album was compiled in 2012 but includes sounds created between 1997-2001. The jazzy little bit at [19:30] is currently tickling my eardrums, and reminds me a lot of Bonobo's Black Sands. Enjoy!
Sufjan Stevens - Futile Devices (Shigeto Remix) [download]
Shigeto does it again. Beatmaker-extraordinaire Zachary Saginaw takes Sufjan Steven’s mellow and reflective “Future Devices” and adds a chilled out beat to it that you could nod your head or step to. I was listening to Damian Lazarus’s most recent Lazpod (26) and he plays the original version of this track, which is awesome in it’s own right and very similar minus the beats. While Shigeto’s remix may not seem groundbreaking or complex, I feel like the track’s beauty lies in its simplicity. Enjoy the free download. And float away.
Thievery Corporation - Satyam Shivam Sundaram (Feat. Gunjan)
"To summarize Satyam Shivam Sundaram means that the path of truthfulness (Satyam) is always conscious based (Shivam) and leads to inner happiness (Sundaram).
Or to acquire inner happiness one should follow the path of truthfulness and conscious based decisions.” Satyam Shivam Sundaram
Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite Thievery Corporation tracks. If you haven’t heard the album which this song is from, The Cosmic Game (2005), I highly recommend you check it out. ”Satyam Shivam Sundaram” is heady and hypnotic; the use of the sitar and the echoing vocals teleports the listener to another cosmic dimension. Rob Garza and Eric Hilton make up the duo, and they put on a helluva live show with all their supporting artists… If you ever get a chance to see them live, or even for a DJ set, you should see them immediately! I was lucky to catch them at the Greek Theater in Berkeley a while back, and their show is honestly one of the coolest live sets around.
Julio Bashmore - Husk
Massive deep house tune that Julio Bashmore closed his set (encore!) with in San Francisco last weekend. People all hopped up on stage and got down hard to “Husk.” Thanks a ton to Jeremy for the track ID. Close your eyes. Let the music take you away. And STOMP!
