MaG - Freedom [download]

Normally I don’t post too much hip-hop, but this caught my eye this morning as I was browsing through new music. RCRD LBL sent me an email of a free album download by this new rapper MaG, and in their words… “Ambitious, declarative and sprawling, MaG smashes through the rap wall and announces his presence as a refreshing new voice in New York hip-hop with the release of his new LP freedom.” He has a good rhythm, and his lyrics flow smoothly with a clean beat.
Dusky - Essential Mix 2012-10-13
GO DEEP. As a huge fan of the deep house genre, the UK duo Dusky takes the clean and deep bass to a whole new level. It is a perfect mix for an afterhours, warehouse soiree. This is hands down one of my favorite essential mixes I’ve heard all year. I can only imagine a 2am-6am set with these beats going down. Thanks to Alexandra for opening my eyes to this one.
Justin Martin - Don’t Go [download]

From Justin Martin’s newest album, Ghettos and Gardens, this track brings the Dirtybird bass with a clean, refined, and catchy flavor. This highly melodic tune is intertwined with pure sounding bass and is exactly what I enjoy about Dirtybird’s flavor of house. I highly recommend you check out this album, as it is straight fire from start to finish. This track is a clear indication of the rest of the album’s quality.
DJ Kicks By Photek - [Download]
![]()
This DJ Kicks album by Photek is easily one of the best mixes I have heard in 2012. Thanks to Electronic Battle Weapons, I was able to listen to this album the first thing this morning. Give it a shot and you’ll know what I am talking about, if you’re into heavy, clean, bass music with hints of tech house and dnb. I don’t want to spoil the magic of this album, so give it a listen yourself and see how awesome this DJ Kicks album really is. Peep the tags if you want more descriptions. Please listen to this with good headphones or great speakers with heavy bass for true appreciation of this wonder.

okay okay this is the last Emalkay track I will post. it’s heavy.

Emalkay - Metropolis [download]
Emalkay continues to amaze me with his repertoire of ridiculous bass. If you bump this song LOUD, you will feel all the different layers of bass. Emalkay is an anomaly to me. He’s heavy yet light and melodic at times. He’s drops the filthiest, dirtiest sounds, yet he has some of the cleanest sounding bass in other tracks. Emalkay’s Eclipse (2011) might just be one of my favorite dubstep albums this year… along with Magnetic Man’s eponymous, monstrous album.
…and here’s a treat in [320kbps goodness]. It’s a .rar so if you don’t know how to unarchive it, I suggest you figure it out!
Emalkay - Eclipse (2011) [download]
*Favorites: Fabrication, Space Hopper, Transpose, Metropolis, When I Look at You, The World… basically the entire album!
progressive dubstep? prog-step? is this a start of a new trend?

Emalkay - Space Hopper [download]
So as you can probably tell I’m listening to Emalkay in my headphones right now. His album, Eclipse (2011) is absolute fire. If you don’t have it or haven’t listened to it, I highly recommend you go out and get it (or download it… *if people really enjoy it I might just post it). Some top notch dubstep and a taste of drum and bass as well.
Space Hopper intrigued me from the get go, because its not your run of the mill dubstep track… it is far more progressive. Again, it is heavy but clean, and there are breaks of pure synth and harmony, which I can safely say is unheard of in this genre. That’s why I think that Emalkay has ventured into a new realm of more progressive dubstep. Not in your face the whole time, but with adequate breaks in between to give you a chance to breathe a little bit before raging on. Rage on.
*disclaimer: this song is not for the faint of heart - do not listen if you don’t like heavier dubstep*

Emalkay - Fabrication [download]
Some A+ dark, heavy, and grungy dubstep by UK Heavyweight Emalkay. Definitely a change up from my last post, but I like the harder and darker styles equally as much. This track is cool in that it is as clean as it is heavy - many times the heavier sounds automatically come dirty/filthy, but this one steers clear of that and just bumps some solid, clean bass.
Jai Paul - BTSTU [download]
dont fuck with me, dont fuck with me,
since you shipped my ass out to sea,
i never knew where i was going,
i went where the water was flowing.
I know ive been gone a long time, but,
im back and i want what is mine,
i know ive been gone a long time, but,
im back and i want what is mine.

This song is absolutely beautiful. Haunting lyrics with a solid bassline, this track is sure to send chills down your spine upon a closer listen. I decided to post this track because I was just at Low End Theory last night, and I remember that I heard this song during Groundislava’s set a couple months back. Props to my buddy Alan for finding this track again. For those who don’t know, Low End Theory is a weekly party northeast of downtown that draws spectacular up and coming talent in the LA Beats Scene. For example, I was lucky enough to witness James Blake and Flying Lotus (and Gaslamp Killer) throw DOWN last night!!
I decided to go on a whim and to be adventurous, and it sure paid off. Well enjoy this one and I’ll post up a Groundislava song later!

an intro to Shigeto
![]()
Who: Shigeto. Japanese guy named Zach Saginaw, based out of Brooklyn, NY.
What: clean bass-driven music.
When/Where: Friday, October 7th at the Troubadour in West Hollywood
Why: Go to the show because his music is freaking awesome. So clean, crisp, and fresh. Those would be the adjectives that I would describe his music. And its pretty cool because there is some Asian flair about his tracks that reflects his heritage. Hhe is spinning with Star Slinger who will provide us with some heady beats. The show is only $12! Do it. (*bonus points for the pretty sweet XLR8R picture of Shigeto above)
Sounds like: Mount Kimbie, Nosaj Thing, Flying Lotus
stay tuned for a preview of Shigeto’s album and podcast…
do yourself a favor. if this next song does not blow your mind with its clean, bone-shattering bass [esp. at 1:38 and on]…get yourself new headphones and/or speakers (and maybe even a new subwoofer too.) cheers.
Mount Kimbie - 50 Mile View
