DJ Snake - Together [free download in 320!]
I never thought I’d be listening to hardstyle in a non-ironic fashion in 2013, until I heard this mind blowing jam “Together” that my good friend Noel shared with me today. “Together” pays homage to the good ol’ days of that uplifting, “we-are-pirates” sort of rising synth combined with that sharp kick drum, resulting in a whole bunch of people from the Netherlands and Melbourne battling it out on the floor to see who has the superior shuffle.
According to his Soundcloud, DJ Snake is “Born & Raised in Motherfuckin’ Paris,” and I absolutely love that he reps his Parisian roots hard. This track is absolutely flooring to me. Hardstyle meets trap in a manner that is très fantastique. I have to admit, trap generally does not scratch the right itch for me, but this track is absolutely on point for everything that I do enjoy about the genre.
The first drop is masterful, with the requisite repeating “bounce” vocal / lasers and a bassline that would light up any dancefloor. The song once again tilts its head in the direction of that classic hardstyle sound and build, but the second drop is pretty unexpected and absolutely godly. The heady arabian sounding bass along with the repeated “work” vocal is guaranteed to get people slithering.
The best part? He’s giving the track away for free via his Soundcloud in 320kbps quality. Class act. Throw this track on repeat, because if you’re like me you were probably wishing that “Together” had another few minutes on it. Werk.
Julio Bashmore - Husk
Massive deep house tune that Julio Bashmore closed his set (encore!) with in San Francisco last weekend. People all hopped up on stage and got down hard to “Husk.” Thanks a ton to Jeremy for the track ID. Close your eyes. Let the music take you away. And STOMP!
Lotus Plaza - Black Buzz
Interesting music video for Lotus Plaza (Lockett Pundt, guitarist of Deerhunter) of a girl making a break for an ocean cleansing.
This reminds me of my first Tumblr post ever, my late night Pac Man Snack Attack :-P
Junior Boys - The Equalizer [download]
From Junior Boys sophomore album, So This is Goodbye (2006), “The Equalizer” is strong representation of their funky electronic grooves. Most of you may recognize their single from the album, “In the Morning,” but in truth the entire album is a winner from start to finish. I’ll be posting up the album a little bit later, but for now, enjoy this funky gem by the Canadian indie electronic duo.
Eats Everything - Entrance Song [download]
This song is the definition of good deep house music. I just can’t get enough of this track after hearing it on Maya Jane Coles’ Essential Mix. These are the sorts of drops that make people lose it on the dancefloor. I will look into this humorous Eats Everything character and hopefully report back with some quality tunes!
Pretty Lights - We Must Go On [download]
We must go on. Some fresh beats by Pretty Lights… brings me right back to Identity Festival where we were raging in the stairwell the entire time! Glad my friend Randy showed me this gem. I love that PL releases almost all his music free on his site… check it out!
A1 Bassline - Why Do You [download]
Future Bass Thursdays. Some absolute FIRE by UK heavyweight A1 Bassline… this song is so fresh, and cuts along a few different styles including Detroit techno, UK bass, and a little bit of the deep house vibe, while staying true to the wonderful Dirtybird label. Get some! [go crazy @ 2:34]
