San Franciscans, if I were you I would RSVP for this free party on Treasure Island on September 30th at 5:30 PM. Its being put on by Vice and Jansport, and one of my absolute favorites of the year, Father John Misty (of Fleet Foxes) will be playing, along with The Dodos, Geographer, and White Fence. If I were in town, I would be there in a second! So I hope one of you sees this and attends this awesome free show. Somebody go and report back so I can live vicariously while I’m in France :)

Josh Tillman is Father John Misty, former member of Fleet Foxes. His new album, Fear Fun (2012) is quite fantastic, stretching from folksy rock, to blues, to country with a very indie feel to it. I haven’t posted many non-electronic tracks but this should hopefully steer me in that direction! I really dig this “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings” song. Enjoy.

The New Division - Shallow Play
A really awesome track by local LA band The New Division. I saw these guys back in September and they are quite awesome to say the least. Nu-disco, indie electronic type stuff, I can’t wait to catch them again (although I missed them at Central last week!)
10/15 Show Review - Metronomy at the Troubadour, West Hollywood

On Saturday night, I caught Metronomy play a sold-out show at the Troubadour in WeHo. This UK quartet played an amazing show from start to finish. Their set was much more upbeat and dancey than I had imagined, and they had a great energy and presence onstage. Each member of Metronomy really stood out to me. Their bassist, Gbenga Adelekan laid down some amazing riffs. Anna Prior, the band’s drummer (who kind of looks like Florence Welch) did a phenomenal job laying down some complex beats in perfect timing. Oscar Cash played the saxophone and the keyboard tremendously, and he had a really fun and unique dancing style that was contagious. Last, Joseph Mount, the band’s composer and lead singer had some amazing guitar riffs and he sang his heart out as the lead vocalist. Each band member had some sort of weird orb of light attached to their chest which synced up to their music and created a dazzling visual spectacle. When they played “The Look” near the end of their set, I knew that seeing Metronomy live was a great decision. I can’t wait till I get to see them again!

I find it kind of funny. It’s pouring outside, and what is my first choice for music today? Some Beach House of course, the dream poppy, hazy and somewhat psychedelic Norway. Yesterday, it was your average nice and sunny day in LA, and what did I blog about? Some dark, heavy dubstep via Emalkay. The weather can put me in funny moods.
Two Door Cinema Club - Something Good Can Work (The Twelves Remix) [download]
The Twelves take Two Door Cinema Club’s already solid track and turn it into a nu disco party. Get your dancing shoes on because when you’re partying with this Brazilian duo, you will surely be dancing your ass off. I was lucky enough to catch The Twelves at Mighty up in SF on Friday of Outside Lands 2011, and they threw down such an amazing, high energy set. I hung out in one of the gigantic speakers to bask in the bass. I don’t know too many original tracks of The Twelves themselves, but they throw down some serious remixes. More to come.

Discovery - Osaka Loop Line [download]
In case you didn’t know, Discovery is the indie-electronic-funk project of the keyboardist from Vampire Weekend and the vocalist from Ra Ra Riot. I’m a huge fan of this upbeat, synth-ed out track by Discovery. It makes me feel like I am floating on a cloud and it always puts me in a good mood; it is very blissful.
Osaka Loop Line is definitely the best track on the synth-heavy album, but there are some other gems on there, such as Swing Tree, Discover, etc. Enjoy!

With the sounds of seagulls and waves crashing, Metronomy opens up The English Riviera with a perfectly laid back track, “We Broke Free.” The song instantly drew me in when I heard it on KCRW… I had to mark the time/date and look it up right when I got home!
The album The English Riviera is a solid indie rock composition. My other favorite track on it is called “The Look.” get up, and we get down… we’re always running from this town! Not sure what else to say about this album but it is pretty relaxing and has captivated my attention.
