Ali Love - Emperor (Maceo Plex Last Disco Rework)

This track made the rounds over at Miami Music Week, and Maceo Plex’s disco rework is a killer jam to be vibing out to in the hot Miami sun. Crosstown Rebels always bring the fire.

Kingdom - Bank Head (feat. Kelela)

Just listened to Kingdom’s first track off his forthcoming album, Vertical XL which drops on May 28th and I’m quite excited for its release. “Bank Head” has Kingdom’s signature cascading bass waterfalls, combined with claps and a warm synth to produce a very warm, summer-ready beat. You can hear the influence of his time with Night Slugs on this track with the echoing vocals that are reminiscent of Girl Unit’s dancefloor dominator “Wut.” Enjoy the smooth bass.

The Chemical Brothers - Swoon (Lindstrom & Prins Thomas Remix)

I’ve been on quite the disco kick lately, and this late-2010 remix of The Chemical Brothers epic track “Swoon” has me on a psychedelic disco adventure. The Norwegian Lindstrom and Prins Thomas take this heady track on a ride on the Scandinavian space-age-disco train, a la Todd Terje, with synths that are pretty much out of this world. I would love to hear this jam with my feet in the sand somewhere. Can’t wait for summer.

Tensnake - Need Your Lovin (Tiger and Woods Remix)

Happy Friday! From the German house connoisseur who brought you “Coma Cat” comes “Need Your Lovin,” with a psychedelic and loopy remix by the enigmatic Italian duo Tiger and Woods. I remember seeing Tensnake at A Club Called Rhonda last year in March, and this heady track definitely got the dancefloor groovin’. Hope these warm, disco- infused beats put some beat in your step today.

Andre Crom - Hypnotizing (Homework NYC ‘82 Mix)

Amsterdam’s up and coming duo, Homework takes this track by Andre Crom back to NYC 90s house with warm vibes and classic samples. [4:04] is probably my favorite build, and when the beat comes back in I’m put into a hypnotic trance where my feet and head move with no direction from my brain. On repeat. Warm and fuzzy.

Antwerp - Erin [download]

Big ups to The 405 for opening my ears up to this London based electronic music producer. A very warm sounding and heady track for my morning, and a free download at that. Listen and melt into the sound.

Suzanne Kraft - Jus U [download]

Laid back, summer disco groove by Suzanne Kraft. I saw Suzanne a little while ago at some party over at Public Works, and he did a great job of bringing that disco warmth to the floor. Enjoy this free track from Friends of Friends new sister label, Young Adults. Props again to XLR8R for always bringing the freshest of jams to light.

Show Review - Com Truise, Bauuer at 1015 Folsom

Com Truise - Cathode Girls [download]

Synthed Out Sunday , brought to you by glitched out beatmaker from New Jersey, Com Truise. I saw Com on Friday, July 13th over at 1015 Folsom in SOMA, and it was kind of a mixed-bag of a night as a whole. As far as the music was concerned, Com Truise played through most of his first album, Galactic Melt during the short but blissed out, glitchy 50 (55?) minute set. He did a stupendous job keep the crowd on their feet, glitching his synth-heavy tracks in a manner that had me stepping all over the place. By the time “Cathode Girls” came on, I was in such a blissful state that I closed by eyes and melted into his synthetic goodness. I wish I could say the crowd at 1015 Folsom was as good as Com’s music, though. Lots of douchey, just disrespectful people (“hey, let’s cut the entire coat check line in front of the people waiting for 10 minute-types”) who were quick to throw an elbow or a shoulder without so much as an “excuse me,” rather we were constantly being bombarded by bodies in a brusque manner. Couple of extra-tough bros even got to the point of exchanging words with one of my boys over bumping into each other. To be expected when going out clubbing I guess, but it was happening to a very high degree which knocked a couple points off of the night and kind of ruined the vibe.

Those are my only real complaints about 1015 Folsom —  the way in which they fill the club, and their patrons as well sometimes. First off, 1015 is a large club, and with the two room setup, the main room gets packed like a can of sardines by the time the main acts come on while the side room usually remains relatively empty. Secondly, I don’t really know what attracts the shitty and sketchy sorts to 1015, but this is my second experience where I was annoyed and uncomfortable by the people. I definitely felt hands go through my back pockets while I was dancing at one point, and the constant barrage of self-righteous shoulder throwers was enough to make me swear off the venue unless there is someone who I absolutely must see in town. One of the openers was really MEH, but one of the other people DJing in the side room had a few moments of dancefloor madness. Some Jacques Greene and some Mount Kimbie esque postdubstep beats were being thrown down at one point, followed up by the magnetic Bashmore track “Battle for Middle You,” at which point floor went nuts.

All in all, I had a pretty awesome night. It would have been really awesome but the experience was docked a point or two due to the crowd +antics. If you haven’t seen Com Truise before, I highly recommend you immerse yourself in his warm, synth laden tripped out beats. If you don’t really know him, I sort of think of him as if Crystal Castles and Nosaj Thing had a baby. Raage.

Groundislava - Creeper Shit [download]

this song makes me feel as if i am being immersed in 8-bit. it’s like i jumped into a 8-bit jacuzzi. my body feels warm as i soak and take in the computer generated fuzziness. something about this song just makes me smile. enjoy.

Groundislava’s label is cool enough to release the entire EP for free too! Check it out on their website. Also, props to XLR8R for helping me re-find this gem.
